In early days Dolphins raced under various measurement rules - Midget Ocean Racing Club (MORC), Cruising Club of America (CCA), and the Off Sounding Club Rule, among others. While the Dolphin was a 'one design' it was often modified by its owners in significant ways to improve its performance. In the minds of these owners these changes improved the performance under various racing rules. To a significant extent S&S incorporated a number of these changes in the design that became the Yankee Dolphin. A summary of some of the changes S&S tracked can be seen in an internal memo written by John Meade to Rod Stephens dated November 8, 1968 - click here to see it.
A winter project of this website will be to research and analyze various certificates and changes, and racing results.
The following is Black Dolphin's OSC certificate for 1977.
